good morning, welcome to team view, mornings on 2. >> a lot of activity is going on throughout the bay area today, let's get right to meteorologist, rosemary orozco with a check on your forecast. >> good morning to you, we're going to be clinging down a little more for today, the clouds are back this morning, 2 to 4 degrees cooler than where we started yesterday. yes expect the clouds to hug the coast line. some clearing expected in the afternoon for the north coast. areas around san jose, and half moon bay. the onshore breeze continues to blow inland, and chase that heat away. we'll tell you how much cooler you can expect to be in your neighborhood, coming up in just a few moments. one person is dead, and another is in the hospital after an accident on interstate

880 this morning. several cars were involved in the crash. highway patrol says one of the cars stopped on the interstate, and was then hid by two other vehicles. three lanes were closed for several hours, but have since reopened. also from overnip night, a bizarre incident in vacaville ends up with a police officer facing possible discipline action. a female guest at the super 8 hotel walked into the lobby neighbor ed with -- naked with a gun in hand. the clerk and 911 operator talked the woman into surrendering. police say she may have been intoxicated. >> hold on just a second. >> while a ktvu photographer interviewed a sergeant on camera about the story, a gunshot was heard in the background. vacaville police tell us, an

officer's gun had accidently discharged. we're told the officer could face disciplinary charges. no one was hurt in either incident. in san jose, police are investigating an early morning stabbing that happened early this morning. it's not clear what led up to the stabbing. the condition of the victim also is not known. and no arrests have been made. construction work remains halted on san francisco's new transbay terminal project. allie rasmus is in the city with a live report on what led up to this accident. >> reporter: this is where it happened. this is the construction site for the transbay transit center. it's sunday morning, so there's no construction activity right now, there is questions on when it could resume because of that accident. there are different accounts of exactly what went wrong. pg and e says the worker sawed through a power line.

late last night, a spokesperson told ktvu, a worker was actually driving an excavator, and that the machine hit the power line. we're still trying to get clarification on that. the construction worker suffered third degree burns to his hands and face. the pg and e crews came to the scene after the accident happened to reroute electricity around the site. there was power here yesterday. pg and e explained. >> it's not always feasible in some cases to cut power to many, many customers while a construction project is. just as it won't be feasible to cut their power, water, sewer, gas, or service for many years. >> reporter: the new transit center is scheduled to open in 2017. pg and every, and cal-osha are investigating what happened.

construction on this spot may be put on hold until those investigations are finished, but again, we're trying to reach those project spokespersons to get an update. live in san francisco, allie rasmus, ktvu, channel 2 news. this morning, the investigation continues into a triple homicide into the city of richmond. three people were shot and killed inside a unit at the triangle court public housing complex. 36-year-old michael anderson who lived at the home is among those killed. 19-year-old dante deloney, and a 28-year-old man from san leandro has also been killed. >> the investigation reveals that people inside the house were all involved in interactions, and that led to an argument, and gunfire. >> police say a possible motive could be robbery. investigators confirm, they

have questioned one person of interest. they say they found several guns inside the home, possibly used in that shootout. after a quiet few months, there have been six homicides in richmond in the past week. three men were killed in four separate shootings. richmond police increased patrols following last weekend's violence. today police say no arrests have been made in any of those homicides. the u.s. coast guard will resume their search for seven people from a boat that sank off the baja coast. an aerial crew completed its fifth search yesterday of a 1,000 square mile area in the sea of cortez in mexico. the mexican navy and the mexican federal police also are participating in the search effort. one of the passengers who made it to safety says he owes his life to a friend on the trip.

he says fellow passenger glen wong who had a floatation device and a life preserver gave him a vest. gibson spent 16 hours in the water before swimming to a rocky island. >> it was surrealistic. i mean, i'm here, and as i saw the ship pointed this direction, just like the titanic. it went slowly. i could read the name, eric as it went down in the water. >> gibson said he was so exhausted, he started hallucinating waiting for rescuers. he says he believes the seven could be still alive, especially if they reached one of the islands in the area. congressional leaders are meeting with president obama at the white house, to continue debt negotiations. house speaker john boehner says the republicans will not budge on their stands. they will not support a plan to reduce the deficit about $4

trillion over the next seven years. boehner favors a smaller deficit reduction deal. we will have more on today's white house meeting. in about an hour, the space shuttle atlantis will dock at the international space station. the four person crew spent their first full day. the shuttle appears to be in good condition. the main mission is to deliver supplies to the space station. this is the last shuttle flight in the fleet's 30 year history. ♪ [ music ] good morning to you. a live look outside our doors, where the gray skies are back with us this morning, and our temperatures running a little cooler. from 2 to 4 degrees in many areas. let's take a look at some of those temperatures as we maybe get out early this morning. 53degrees right now, san francisco. redwood city checking in about 54. 54 in napa and mid-50s, concord, as well as livermore

sh and fairfield, where the winds are blowing pretty good right at the airport. we get that delta breeze there. and the onshore breeze will continue throughout the afternoon, drive our temperatures back just a little more than what we saw for saturday. your fog forecast, we do have a little bit 6 fog reported in santa rosa. san jose, mostly clear skies this morning. by 10ebg, it does begin to peel back just a little bit, but still right inside the bay, berkely, richmond, san rafael, and down the peninsula coast, we will continue with the clouds, even throughout the afternoon it looks like it's going to hug the coast here, so we could actually see, just plenty of gray, from half moon bay, down into santa cruz. we continue with this trend. we now have a trough again setting up along the coastline, it's only going to deepen over the next several days. we'll continue to cool. today, slightly cooler than what we saw yesterday.

three police officers in the city of kandahar. also today, a top afghan district leader was killed by a roadside bomb. leon panetta is spending the weekend in afghanistan. despite this morning's violence, he remains optimistic the u.s. will defeat al-qaeda. he met karzai and david petraeus. >> the key is that having gotten bin laden, we've now identified some of the key leadership within al-qaeda, both in pakistan as well as in yemen. >> panetta is also meeting with american troops. president obama wants to bring about 10,000 service members back home this year, and 20,000 next year. a strong earthquake in

japan prompted a brief tsunami warning today. a magnitude 7.3 quake shook the northeast coast, the same area devastated by the march earthquake and tsunami. residents received orders to evacuate this morning, but the tsunami order was lifted after several hours. house speaker john boehner is abandoning plans to pursue a massive $4 trillion deficit reduction package. speaker boehner says a smaller agreement is more realistic. >> both men agree, it's going to hurt. but where to find that money? that's where the two camps divide. republicans don't want tax increases. democrats want to keep entitlements like medicare, and social security in tact. so far, no one is budging. the two sides will meet in the white house again sunday inside. >> we agree on some of the big thingsment we agree after a decade of racking up deficits

and debt, we need to get our fiscal house in order. both sides are going to have to step out of their comfort zones and make some sacrifices. >> reporter: it's almost an automatic no vote for republicans elected with tea party bagging, and democrats elected to keep entitlements as is. >> i also believe that we ought not to put this country on the brink of financial chaos and bring us down in the eyes of the world. >> let's just review some of the statistics mr. speaker. there have been 2.5 million jobs lost since this president took office. >> reporter: it will take about three weeks to write the bill, tweak it, and push through both houses.

mountain view based google is getting ready to report its second quarter based earnings this tuesday. it is expected to post double- digit gains. up nearly 19% from a year ago. google stock dropped on friday, despite the positive forecast. overall, company shares went up 8% in june, but remain down, 8% on the year. the commerce department will release its june retail sales report on thursday. bloomberg is reporting that sales stayed flat last month. the june jobs report released last friday said the nation's unemployment rate rose slightly. after an 11 year streak, lexus is no longer the top luxury brand in the united states. sales will fall 19% this year, placing it behind bmw.

representatives say the decrease is due to the earthquake in japan. transformers continue to rule the weekend box office. transformers, dark of the moon held onto the top spot at theaters on friday, taking in $14.9 million. when the final numbers come in, the movie is expected to bring in $46 million for its second weekend run. dark of the moon debuted at the top spot last week with $116 million. this weekend's second highest grossing movie is expected to be horrible bosses. texas is trying to save the incandescent light bulb. now, texas governor, rick perry has signed a new measure, calling on his state to defy the law. the law says texas can continue selling them, but only if

you're back into the mid, and low 70s tuesday, wednesday, and thursday. back to you. a truck driver in michigan was killed after his semi truck slammed into a grocery store. this is the aftermath of yesterday's crash. police say the driver was cut off on a highway, lost control, shot up an embankment, and slammed into the side of the market. one witness says two cars were racing nearby, and may have played a role in that incident. fighter jets intercepted two civilian planes near camp david this weekend. the two separate incidents took place yesterday, while president obama was there for a presidential retreat. in those cases, the civilian planes were hit by f15 fighter jets. this is the fourth time this month that planes have been intercepted while president obama was at camp david. pilots finally reached their destination, one day after an unexpected detour. the plane departed from chicago

friday, but was diverted to cleveland. an airport spokesperson says a male passenger was acts suspiciously, and would not comply with the flight crews request to calm down. the man than got physical with the pilot, and several other passengers tackled the man. >> the man came up, put him in a head lock, they got him down on the ground. >> the man was removed from the plane in cleveland, and questioned by the fbi. passengers had to spend the night in cleveland, because the fly crew had exceeded the allotted number of hours for the day. big crowds in florida. thousands packed pensacola beach for the famous blue angels air show. they performed nearly an hour of daring stunts yesterday. larger crowds are even expected for today's show. people in the pay area will be able to see them perform in just a few months.

could be put on hold, possibly until these investigations are finished, and we're still trying to get in touch with that project spokesperson this morning to get an update on how construction schedule could be impacted. live in san francisco, allie rasmus, ktvu channel 2 news. new information this morning on the fatal bart shooting that occurred within week ago -- one week ago today. bart police shot and killed a man they say was holding a knife. now the chronicle is reporting, san francisco police had a brief showdown with bart police over who would conduct the probe into the shooting. they have since agreed to subject separate, but parallel investigations organizers will be calling for the complete shut down of the bart police force. they're also calling for the officers involved to be

prosecuted. police say a man mistakenly stepped on an accelerator while trying to park. just across the street from glen park bart station. paramedics took the man to the hospital, but his injuries are not considered serious. police are investigating an armed robbery at a safeway. it happened around 7:25 yesterday morning. police say a man walked into the store, pointed a gun at the clerk at the customer service desk and demanded cash. he got away in a white chevy impala with an undisclosed amount of money. no one was injured during the robbery. a vallejo teenage is facing multiple charges after police say he caused an accident that injured several people. officers tried to pull him over in fairfield, but i he didn't

stop. the suspect lost control at broadway, hitting three cars at a stoplight. >> a cloud of smoke went up in the air. by the time i got over here, there was funnel county, vallejo pd, there was everybody. guns drawn and chasing people everywhere. >> most seriously injured was a 5-year-old boy. the 17-year-old suspect faces hit-and-run, evading arrest, and stolen vehicle charges. palo alto's gun buy back program was held yesterday. the event was held just one month after a 3-month-old was killed by gunfire in east palo alto. >> there wasn't a dry eye in the department. everyone took it pretty hard.

>> sergeant carson says despite the fatal shooting last month, gun violence is down about 50% from last year in east palo alto. the union approved a contract that requires officers to contribute an additional 3% of salaries to the pension fund over the next two years. in exchange, the city agreed to no layoffs for this fiscal year. mayor ed lee is asking workers to make concessions to ease the city's budget deficit. if firefighters agree to a similar plan, it could save the city $31 million over the next two years. a blood drive held for a martinez police officer who died of cancer is being called an overwhelming success. he died on june 22 from nonhodgkins lymphoma. on friday, people donated blood in his memory. a total of 75 units of blood was collected.

the department hopes to make the blood drive annual event. caltrans will host a safety event tomorrow. a death occurred back in june in san diego. richard gonzalez died after being hit by a car. he was cleaning up trash outside a connector ramp. caltran encourages drivers to follow the move over law. it requires drivers to slow down and move over next to a car that has any lights. montana wants to build a commercial development next to the planned 49ers stadium. santa clara is requesting the council deny. believing others should have a chance to lease the property through an open bid. dogs may soon be allowed back on the streets of downtown

santa cruz. the city banned dogs downtown in 1976, in part because of homeless people who did not pick up after their pets. dog owners hope that a new bill, which requires dogs to have colors will convince the council to lift the downtown ban, when it comes up for a vote this week. a cs pink is making its way to raise money and awareness for the fight against breast cancer. the avon walk for breast cancer is a two day event. more than 2,000 men and women are walking 18 miles. >> mitsy is my sister. she died 11 years ago. i said i would start walking for her. >> it's strangers, except for one reason. and the reason is, breast cancer. everyone either wants to avoid it, or survive it. >> we'll wrap up at 3:00 today at fort mason. in just about 30 minutes,

good morning to you, san francisco, waking up with clouds, and fog out there, and a cool start to the morning. new this morning, rescuers in china have found two trapped miners alive. the miners spent more than 180 hours under ground. crews think four more men might be trapped in the same section. 8 people have died. 12 miners are still missing. tens of thousands of people attended the swearing in ceremony of the south sudan president. south sudan officially became its own nation, after separating from the north last week. but delicate issues remain unresolved between the two countries. the government this morning

unveiled a carbon tax plan that forces australia's 500 worst polluters to pay special fees. the more carbon, the higher the penalty. some of the money will help those households hit with higher power bills. thousands of thrill seekers have run with the bulls in spain for the fourth day. ten people were injured today at the festival in pam pamplona. but no one was gored. this running of the bulls in new orleans is a little bit safer, maybe than the original. the bulls in this case are members of a roler derby team. some of them are armed with plastic bats and they say they hit those who get in their way. an ohio family is crediting swimming lessons with helping to save their 3-year-old son,

a bathroom. it landed at o'hare international airport about 1:00 a.m. the station flight was searched cleared and allowed to continue onto germany. the spokesman says a crew member found a sticker with a threatening message in a bathroom. the plane was diverted in an abundance of caution. we want to give you a live look outside for your drive time traffic. here is a look at the golden gate bridge. traffic moving lightly there. the giants not playing a day game, it's a night game, so things looking smoothly as you make your way into san francisco. some san francisco streets will be closed to cars for five hours today, as part of the sunday streets program on the second sunday of every month, the city shuts down streets in

good morning, everyone, welcome to mornings on 2. i'm mike mibach. >> it's sunday, july 10. temperatures today, once again cooler than normal. let's check in with meteorologist, rosemary orozco with a look at your forecast. >> we're cooler this morning. this cooling trend takes hold, and well, it's not going to shake us loose anytime soon. take a look at what's going on through the morning hours. waking up with a.m. clouds, although we do have sunshine out there. afternoon highs ranging from the upper 50s along the coast to upper 70s, low 80s inland. the afternoon sea breeze will be back with us once again. we'll take a look at the temperatures out the door for you this morning, and what you can expect for the afternoon coming up. overnight, a united airlines flight was diverted after a threat was found inside a bathroom. a united flight spokesman says the flight landed at o'hare airport in chicago around 1:00

a.m. a crew member found a threatening sticker with a message in the bathroom and the plane was diverted as a precaution. it happened around 3:00 a.m., just north of 66th avenue in oakland, several cars were involved in this crash. highway patrol says one of the cars stopped on the interstate and was hit by other vehicles. a bizarre incident in vacaville ends up with a police officer facing possible disciplinary action. authorities say a female guest at the super 8 motel walked into a lobby naked with a gun in hand. the clerk called 911. with officers surrounding the building, they talked the woman into surrendering. police say she may have been intoxicated.

>> hold on just a second. >> a gunshot was heard in the background. vacaville police tell us, an officer's gun had accidently discharged. we're told the officer could face disciplinary charges. no one was hurt. along the way, a transit project could take even longer now. new information in an accident at the transbay construction site. >> reporter: we're going to show you exactly where this accident happened yesterday. the right along fremont and mission. that area roped off with caution tape. i just spoke with the transbay, transit station who said cal- osha completed their investigation, but have not released their findings yet. the spokesperson told us that this worker who was injured yesterday, was drying an excavator, boring into the ground, when the machine hit a power line. this happened 12:30 yesterday

afternoon. the worker was trying to relocate some underground utility lines as part of this construction project when the accident happened. he is expected to make a full recovery. he explained that that utility relocation work in that particular corner, that one corner on fremont and mission will stop for new, until they can figure out what went wrong. >> we can't say when, only that they will allow work to continue there when the deemed safe, and appropriate. and all questions have been answered. we don't believe it will impact the schedule. as we said there is work going on throughout the project area. >> reporter: it is a multiyear project. as you heard, he says construction on the rest of this site and the rest of the project will continue as formal starting tomorrow. the work of relocating the utility lines in that corner,

that specific corner on fremont and mission will be put on hold. an investigation continues into a triple homicide in richmond. three people were killed yesterday afternoon. michael anderson, who lived at the home is among the people killed. dante deloney of oakland, and a 28-year-old man from san leandro has also been killed. >> the preliminary investigation reveals that people inside the house were all involved in an interactions, and that led to an argument and gunfire. >> police say a possible motive could be robbery. investigators confirm they've questioned one person of interest. they found several guns inside the home, possibly used in the shootout. after a quiet few months, there have been six homicides in richmond in the last week. in a period of three hours last

sunday, four men were killed in shootings. today flies say no arrest -- police say no arrests have been made in any of those homicides. police are investigating an early morning stabbing around 1:30 this morning around the intersection of south king and tuley roads. it's not clear what led up to the stabbing. the condition of the victim also is not known. no arrests have been made. the u.s. coast guard will resume its search for seven people. in the sea of cortez near san louis. the mexican police are also participating in the search effort. one of those who made it to shore says he owes his life to a friend. he said glen wong gave him a

vest. gibson spent 16 hours in the water before swimming to a rocky island. >> it was surrealistic. i mean i am here, and as i saw the ship pointed this direction, just like the titanic. it went slowly. i could read the name, eric as it went down in the water. >> gibson says he was so exhausted he started hallucinating, while waiting for rescuers. he believes the seven missing might still be alived, especially if they reached one of the islands in the area. a brief tsunami warning, a magnitude 7.3 quake shook the northeast coast, the same area devastated by the march earthquake and tsunami. the tsunami warning was lifted after several hours. there are no immediate reports of injuries or damage. right now, the space shuttle atlantis is docking at the international space

a truck driver in michigan was killed after his truck slammed into a grocery store. police say the driver was cut off on a highway, lost control, shot up an embankment, and slammed into the side of the market. one witness says two cars were racing nearby, and may have played a role in that incident. an ohio family says swimming lessons helped save their 3-year-old son after he fell into a well. dylan was able to stay afloat

to chicago as a precaution. the plane was searched, and cleared to fly onto germany. no word what that threatening message said. a san francisco worker is seriously hurt after cutting a live wire. live with more on the accident that has halted construction on part of the terminal. >> reporter: we can show you exactly where this accident happened. on the corner, across from us, where you see that caution tape, that's where a construction worker was electrocuted yesterday. in an update we got just 30 minutes ago, from a project spokesperson, we're told the worker is doing okay this morning, and is supposed to make a full recovery. this accident happened around 12:30 yesterday afternoon. the spokesperson for the joint powers authority explained to us this morning, their report of how this accident happened. he says the construction worker was using an excavator machine

to relocate some under ground line. cal-osha completed their investigation. >> we can only say the construction management team will allow work to continue there when it's deemed safe and appropriate and all questions have been answered. we don't believe this will impact the schedule. as we say, there is work going on throughout the project area, and we are moving forward. >> reporter: now the only work that's going to be on hold is in that area where this accident happened. just that cordoned off, caution tape area on the corner of mission and fremont. as you heard the spokesperson explain, that temporary work stoppage is not supposed to affect the over all schedule.

the center is still scheduled to open in 2017. live in san francisco, allie rasmus, ktvu, channel 2 news. overnight in san jose, a man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving after he hit the scene of a house fire. two firefighters were reversing the engine in the allen rock area, just after 12:30 this morning. they say the man crashed into the engine, after driving around two cars and stopped while a fire captain directed traffic. no one was hurt. a vallejo teenager is facing multiple charges this morning. police say the 17-year-old unlicensed drivers speeding in a stolen hummer. officers tried to pull him over in fairfield, but he did not stop. the chase continued into vallejo and the suspect lost control, hitting three cars at

a stoplight. >> a cloud of spoke went up in the air. by the time i got over here, there was highway patrol, vallejo pd, there was everybody. guns drawn, chasing people everywhere. >> at least five people were hurt. most seriously, a 5-year-old boy who was sitting in his mother's lap in one of the cars that was hit. the 17-year-old suspect faces fit and run, e -- hit and run, evading arrest, and stolen vehicle charges. tense moments for an elderly driver in san francisco. the man mistakenly stepped on the gas pedal, while trying to park. paramedics took the driver to the hospital, but his injuries are not considered serious. no one else was hurt in the incident. a man who filed a gun at

hayward police officers is injured. no one was hit. the suspect hold up in an apartment complex for several hours. the standoff ended at 5:00 a.m. when he shot himself. police say a man walked into the store, pointed a gun at a clerk at the customer service desk, and demanded cash. he got away in a white chevy impala with an undisclosed amount of money. it's been one week since a bart police officer fatally shot a man on the san francisco civic center station. now planning a protest against the department. it's scheduled for 4:30 tomorrow afternoon at the civic center station. organizers will be calling for the complete shut down. they're also calling for officers involved to be charged and prosecuted. it was last sunday when

bart police shot and killed a man they say was holding a knife. reporting san francisco police investigators. san francisco police officers will not have to worry about layoffs for at least a year. the union approved a contract that requires officers to contribute an additional 3% of their salaries to the pension funds. in exchange, the city agreed to no layoffs over this fiscal year. mayor ed lee is asking workers to make concessions to save the budget. east palo alto took 75 guns

right now, rescuers are trying to free trapped passengers from the carriages. officials say it is too early to know what exactly caused the derailment, and that accidents are common on the state owned indian railway. on thursday, 38 people died when a train hit a bus transporting a wedding party. two chinese miners have survived after spending 180 hours trapped underground. rescuers pulled the pair to safety after hearing faint sounds overnight. crews think more men might be trapped in the same section of a ventilated tunnel. as we showed you live here on mornings on 2, just about 40 minutes ago, the space shuttle atlantis has docked for a final

new york yankee shortstop, derek jeter is the newest member of baseball's 3,000 hit club. jeter is the 28th major leaguer to reach this milestone, and the very first yankee to do it.
